Father Austin Jackson

Born in 1906 in Haydock St Helens, Austin Jackson was educated at the Gerrard School in Garswood and then the English college in Lisbon Portugal.

Father Jackson was ordained in March 1931 and was subsequently curate at a number of churches - St Alexander's Bootle to 1932, St Joseph's Wigan to 1935, St Josephs' Blundellsands to 1937, and St Monica's Bootle to 1939.

At the outbreak of war in 1939, Father Jackson became a Chaplain in the army and served as a Captain. Father Jackson was taken prisoner at Tobruk 

In post war years Father Jackson returned to Liverpool where he became curate at Star of the Sea, Seaforth until 1949, he then returned to St Helens where he took a position at Holy Cross, and then went back to Liverpool to Sacred Heart until 1951.

Father Jackson became Priest at St Thomas' Windleshaw in 1951 and remained there until his retirement in 1982, he died on 12th May 1983 and was buried in the grounds of Windleshaw Abbey.
